Italy is on the frontline of climate change.
With the country’s heavy reliance on farming, unpredictable weather patterns caused by climate change are having an increasingly negative impact on productivity. Floods, droughts and heatwaves along with wildfires and desertification, are making farming ever more difficult.
To help tackle these growing problems the Italian Government has created a new Ministry for Ecological Transition (MiTE). With $80 billion from the EU’s Covid Recovery Fund it is hoped the Ministry can come up with solutions to help the country cope with the changing world.
Italy has also partnered with the UK for COP26 in November. The country hosted the recent Youth4Climate summit, and will also be the location for the final ministerial meetings in the runup to COP26.
