Putting PVs on EVs seems like a natural partnership.
But there are technical limitations – both in the efficiency of the solar photovoltaic panels, and in the efficiency of the electric vehicles.
However there are now three EVs due in 2022 that will have integrated solar PVs to help extend their range…
- Lightyear One
This car being developed in the Netherlands will have 5 sq m of PV, be extremely efficient and will have a range of up to 450 miles.
You can reserve now one of just 946 pioneer cars but you will have to pay the full price of 150,000 euros up front. - Aptera
This unusual 3-wheel, 2 seater vehicle comes from California, USA and boosts a range of up 1,000 miles.
The PV panels will add up to 40 miles range from a full day’s charge. The car will available for a price of $25,900 – $50,700 depending on range requirements. Reservations are being taken for a deposit of only $100. - Tesla Cybertruck
Elon Musk has said there will be an option for the Cybertruck to have integrated PV on the back cover.
The PV will only add 15 miles of range in a day. The Cybertruck is priced from $39,900 to $69,900 and it can be ordered now for a deposit of $100.
