The Climate Shop, Aberystwyth – How it works

Ru Hartwell explains how The Climate Shop works to convert people’s unwanted items into trees in Kenya.

All the items for sale in the newly opened Climate Shop in Aberystwyth have been donated by local people. They are priced in ‘trees planted’ with £1 being equivalent to 5 trees planted.

The money raised is used to plant tropical trees at the Boré Community project in Kenya.

As well as planting the trees which will draw down Carbon, the project also allows people to get rid of unwanted items without them going to landfill, and it provides the local community with a cost saving way to buy things they want.

Ru hopes the Aberystwyth shop, along with the first Climate Shop in Lampeter, will raise enough money to plant 1 million trees in its first year.
