Elon Musk Claims Ford/UAW Wrote The New EV Incentive Bill

As part of the Democrats’ $3.5 Trillion budget proposal for the USA, a new EV Incentive Bill is being introduced to increase economic incentives for people to buy electric cars.

Armen Hareyan from Torque News reports that Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted out his displeasure about the bill as it includes an extra $4500 tax incentive for EVs built in American factories that are unionised.

Musk claims that the bill has been heavily influenced by US car company Ford and the United Auto Workers union (UAW)

“This is written by Ford/UAW lobbyists, as they make their electric car in Mexico. Not obvious how this serves American taxpayers.”

Tesla has resisted efforts from the UAW to unionise its Fremont factory where Tesla produces all its vehicles for the US market.  Car makers GM, Ford, and Chrysler are all unionised.

Honda and Toyota are also unhappy about the unionisation provision of the bill.
