Rolls Royce electric passenger plane to be ready by 2024

Rolls-Royce’s first all-electric plane, Spirit of Innovation, has completed its maiden flight.

The Spirit of Innovation aircraft took off from the Ministry of Defence’s Boscombe Down site and flew for approximately 15 minutes.

The plane was powered by a 400kW (500 hp) electric powertrain with the most power-dense battery pack ever assembled for an aircraft according to Rolls Royce.

The technology for the plane has been developed by the ACCEL  (Accelerating the Electrification of Flight) programme.
