Portugal’s electricity is 70% from renewables – now plans more

Portugal has very good wind and solar resources.

It currently generates 70% of its electricity from renewable sources – mainly solar and wind. The rest is produced from imported fossil fuels.

The Government wants to greatly increase the share from renewables.

To help with this they are building more offshore, floating wind and solar farms.

However these are more costly than onshore farms, and fisherman are opposing them.

The Portugal government still plans to press ahead.
